40% of people in the UK are worried that they won’t be able to pay the next energy bill, as Citizens Advice explains. Commissioners of the new report, Citizens Advice said that its most recent research reflects this depressing state of economic affairs. This organization says that it has assisted more than 96,000 clients with their fuel debt problems just in the last year, as prices have soared.
Energy Companies Offering Help
The charity group also pointed out that many energy companies are offering support to people to insulate their homes – and that many people don’t know about this offer. EDF Energy, for instance, is offering customers some assistance as they cut gas bill prices by 5% for some customers.
CA chief executive Gillian Guy said,
“Day in day out our bureau help people who can’t afford their fuel bills. We’re worried that some people are struggling unnecessarily because they’re not on the best deal, live in homes that hemorrhage heat or are not getting all of the financial help available to them.”
Ways to Help
As a result of the recent report, Energy Secretary Chris Huhne said, “We know that a lot of households are struggling to cope with rising energy costs. Many people could cut their gas and electricity bills by moving to a better deal with their existing supplier, switching to another supplier altogether, or by taking up home insulation offers. But we need to make sure consumers are aware of this and make it easier for them to take action to save money.”
